Ms. Shafer`s 1st Grade on Safari

 Dear Parent/Guardian(s):

In Ms. Shafer's class we are enjoying ourselves, while learning to share, care, and make wise choices. We are working and striving to be the best we can be and looking forward to a successful school year.

I am excited about having your child in my class at Marshall Elementary this year. My plan is for each child to love coming to school, to be eager about learning, and recognize each other’s uniqueness. It is important that we work together so that mutual respect is evident and a safe, caring educational climate is established. I firmly believe that every student has a right to learn and that no student should be permitted to prevent another student from learning.

Expectations for Behavior

  1. Listen and follow directions the first time.
  2. Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak.
  3. Keep hands, feet, objects, and negative comments to yourself.
  4. Have your supplies and be on time.
  5. Complete and submit all assignments with excellence.

If a student chooses not to comply with an expectation for behavior, consequences will be implemented:

  1. Verbal warning (Reteach the behavioral expectation.)
  2. Individual Conference with the student (Decrease conduct grade to Satisfactory.)
  3. Rule Reflection Corner (Student explains in writing which rule(s) was broken and how they will change their behavior. Decrease conduct grade to Needs Improvement.)
  4. Call Parent (Decrease conduct grade to Unsatisfactory.)

Students exhibiting appropriate behavior will receive positive reinforcement with:

  •  Stickers/Trips to Treasure Box
  •  Positive Notes to Parents
  •  PBIS Events

*Your child will start on green each morning. After your child has received his or her verbal warning and the teacher has conferenced with your child, he or she will move to the next color each time a rule is broken. First yellow (SATISFACTORY), then orange (NEEDS IMPROVEMENT), and last is red (UNSATISFACTORY).

*At the end of each school day, students will color in their agenda based on their behavior for the day. For example, if your child was on green at the end of the school day, he/she would color green in his or her agenda for that day. The agenda will be sent home each night. Please sign your child’s agenda every night.

This plan has been discussed with each student; however, it would be most beneficial if you would also review it together. I ask that you sign below and return this form to school so that your child and I know you are aware of the expectations set forth. Please feel free to share any comments on the back of this form. I also encourage you to share any information you feel would help me as I work with your child. It is in your child’s best interest that we work together. I will do my best to keep you informed of your child’s progress. I encourage you to contact me anytime you have a question or concern. My planning period is from 11:45-12:30. You can arrange an appointment by calling me at 534-7865.

Sincerely,

Jackie Shafer
